Data Management:
PQC / K-Station / PCC / KHS-AI / PDM
Color Management:
PDC-S II / K-ColorProfiler II / K-ColorMatchPro / PDC-LITE II

To achieve further optimization, Komori has specified seven "issue areas" and developed products offering solutions for these issues – Color Management, Operator Support, Short Makeready, High Speed Printing Stability, Material Loss Reduction, Production Process Optimization, and Environment Standardization.

Data Management

PQC Print Quality Controller

PQC is a remote control system for making quality-related adjustments to the press. In addition to remote control of ink, water and register adjustment, a variety of adjustments of press functions can be made using the touch-panel.
Main functions remote controlled by PQC (vary according to model and specification); Ink key opening, ink feed, ink oscillation timing adjustment, ink feed on/off and rate adjustment, circumferential / horizontal / skewing register adjustment, water feed, KHS-AI parameter setting, auto dampening operation, printing unit selection, sheet thickness and sheet size presetting / fine adjustment, cleaning unit selection, automatic wash-up setting, and APC setting.

K-STATION K-STATION

K-Station provides central control of multiple Komori presses and functions as an interface to outside systems (such as the Management Information System [MIS]).
This facilitates sending/receiving production data by JDF and permits data management.
K-Station sends the production control data and job control data in the CIP4/JDF data from the MIS and the CIP4/PPF data from prepress to multiple presses (KHS-AI), and supports press-side makeready tasks.
In addition, production and maintenance data can be managed and stored, and necessary information can be sent as feedback to MIS. Linkage with existing process systems is possible through CSV files.

PCC PQC CIP Communicator

PCC converts digital data from prepress into a PQC-format ink profile for the press.
Using the preview image from CIP4/PPF data to calculate the area ratio and presetting the ink keys with this accurate data has become standard practice in the industry. PCC converts PPF data and CMYK-TIFF data into PQC ink key data for Komori presses. When the setup includes KHS-AI and the network, prepress data can be automatically converted and sent to the press by an automatic conversion function (hot folder function).
Komori presses equipped with earlier models of PQC transfer data by magnetic card, and presses with newer models use floppy disk or the network.

KHS-AI KHS-AI(Advanced Inteface)

KHS is an innovative productivity enhancement system developed to reduce job changeover time and paper waste to an absolute minimum. The system uses job data from the MIS-linked K-Station and preset data from PCC, which is linked to the CTP workflow. Plates output by a CTP system and preset data calculated from CIP4/PPF data enable first-pull register accuracy and color matching. The pre-inking condition is automatically adjusted for the image to be printed. Higher speed at the start of printing and minimizing waste paper at startup enable shorter makereadies and a significant reduction in the use of printing resources. KHS-AI with self-learning is a further evolution of this KHS system. Color matching is optimized by constant analysis and automatic compensation of the image area ratio and ink key openings. Such analysis and compensation is made with respect to the machine condition, the printing environment and changes in the printing materials. On sheetfed presses, KHS-AI air and register adjustment preset functions ― corresponding to the paper size, thickness, grade and grain ― ensure stable sheet feeding and delivery. On web offset presses, all tasks, including changes in the fold specification, are automatically controlled, substantially reducing makeready time and paper waste. In addition, KHS-AI manages the operating record, status history and maintenance data of the press. The system includes a self-diagnostic function for troubleshooting. Customer support also benefits from the ability to accommodate remote diagnostics in an emergency.

PDM PQC Data Manager

This system makes presses that are not compatible with KHS-AI compatible with the DoNet network. PDM is a network compatibility system that facilitates presetting PQC by receiving job preset data from PCC or K-Station over the network and sends results data such as sheets printed and paper loss to K-Station.

Color Management

PDC-S II Print Density Control-Spectrophotometer

The PDC-S II Print Density Control-Spectrophotometer scans and measures the color bar on printed sheets, converting the results to numeric data for display and providing feedback to the press-side as necessary. Compared to the conventional PDC-S, several functions have been enhanced and ease of use during printing is significantly improved through faster measurement and display.
Color adjustments that once depended on the operator's visual check are controlled by numeric data obtained by measuring and analyzing color evaluation indices such as solid densities, dot gain, trapping, contrast, L*a*b, ΔE, hue error, and grayness. This approach vastly increases color consistency and operating efficiency.
PDC-S II incorporates a feedback control function that automatically calculates the appropriate ink key openings when color variation occurs, feeding this data to the press so that densities approach target values. The handheld scanning instrument enables spot assessments anywhere in the image, data registration of special inks, and color management based on spectral reflectance.
High-level color management, reduced operator workload, and higher operating efficiency. PDC-S II: The essential system for printing standardization.

K-ColorProfiler II K-ColorProfiler II

For the difference between the proof and final printing, greater utilization of proofers such as high-end DDCPs or inkjets as a result of CTP systems coming into mainstream use has raised the issue of the proofer having a different color gamut (reproducibility domain) from the printing press. K-ColorProfiler II solves this by enabling the quick creation of a high-resolution ICC profile by measuring a unique K-Color chart with PDC-S II. A proof that is very close to the printed item - can be created by sending the ICC profile to the proofer as feedback.

K-ColorMatchPro K-ColorMatchPro

K-ColorMatchPro performs high-precision color matching with the digital proofer based on the ICC color profile. The ADO (Autonomic DLP Optimizer) automatic color compensation processing function minimizes delta-E (color difference) between the printing press and the digital proofer without any manual fine adjustment.
K-ColorMatchPro accepts all compatible ICC profiles because it does not depend on any particular profile generation package. In addition to direct output on the Epson StylusPro(R) printer, K-ColorMatchPro outputs TIFF files with color-matched DLP (Device Link Profile), thus enabling output on multiple different digital proofers.

PDC-LITE II Scanning Density Control System

PDC-Lite II is a scanning density control system that can be equipped on Komori sheetfed printing presses up to 40 inches in size for density control of 4-color process inks.
Since PDC-Lite II enables numeric density control with easy operation at a low investment point, it is the ideal entry system for printers who intend to implement full-fledged numeric control of print quality. Measures densities, dot gain, trapping, contrast, hue error, and grayness, with results displayed on a touch-panel monitor using a range of graphs.
Operation is simple and intuitive even for operators with short experience thanks to an interactive interface. Equipped with a function to move densities toward target values by feedback of density measurements to the press (PQC).
